West Hills Community Church had an existing facility including sanctuary, narthex, offices and
Sunday school rooms. The congregation is growing 10% per year. Fortunately, their highly
visible site along I-64 in St. Louis County is large enough to accommodate their growth.
The Program and Plan
The master program and plan was implemented in three phases. In the first phase, a new
multi-purpose building was constructed. Classroom space was increased. Offices were
relocated and public areas renovated to create fellowship space. Additional classrooms and
meeting rooms were also built.
The addition is for fellowship, recreation and education functions. As such it has its own identity,
but as part of the church is seen from the adjacent highway, it was also visually integrated.
The two story multipurpose room has a café and separate entrance on one side and classrooms
on the other. A new community area with coffee bar was incorporated as part of the 7,300 sq. ft.
expanded gathering space adjacent to the sanctuary.
As with many of our addition designs, the joint between it and the existing building is an important
part of the project as the location for the new entry to both existing and new buildings and a new
elevator providing the vertical link.
All existing classrooms have been expanded and reconfigured. The offices were relocated into an
expanded 1,700 sq. ft. suite.
A new community area with coffee bar is incorporated as part of the 7,300 sq. ft. expanded
gathering space adjacent to the sanctuary.
Total Renovation Area:
Upper Level with Community Room, Children's Classrooms and Nursery - 12,070 sq. ft.
Lower Level with Church Offices, and Classrooms - 10,078 sq. ft.
